He was killed with the natives. In the end, Sebastian de Elanco lead a crew of 18 men from Phillipines to Portugal. When and where did Magellan die? Magellan was killed after he reached Cebu. The islanders were friendly and he gave the local people gifts from Spain, but the king of the island of Mactan wouldn't pay tributes. He fought the tribe and got killed on April 27 1521.
